Karenni on their way for election

Karenni cease fire group met in Rangoon to register and set up their party to take part in the upcoming election.

Karenni Nationalities People's Liberation Fronts (KNPLF) high ranking official members started discussions during the first week of this month in Rangoon according to a politician who keep a close watch on the Karenni political situation.

He said "Today they (KNPLF) high ranking members are in a meeting in Rangoon to set up the political party and give the party its name. But there is no determination for the party's name."

According to the sources from exile, the KNPLF is planning to register as a party to contest in the 2010 election.

Meanwhile,other political parties will be set up from Karenni State, Loikaw, Deemawso, Bawlake, and Pharsaw township.

At least seven political groups are preparing to register to contest in 2010 election. They are The National Unity Party (NUP), the Democratic Party-Myanmar, the Union of Myanmar National Political Force, the 88 Generation Students Union of Myanmar, Union Solidarity and Development Association (USDA), the National Political Alliance and one established pro-government party. It is expected that they will register within the next few days .

Other ethnic groups like the Kachin State Progressive Party (KSPP) are also going to register their party within 60 days as stipulated by the party registration law, chairman of KSPP Dr Tuja siad on Monday.

The KNPLF is led by U Sandar and U Htun Kyaw, who split from KNPP in 1978 and then signed a ceasefire agreement with the Burmese military regime in 1994. The (KNPLF) and their 1609 soldiers transferred to the Border Guard Forcr in October 8, 2009.
